Yesterday was a fine cold snow day for us in the mid-west. My work schedule was changed to virtual. The kids finished their school work early. It was a beautiful bright day. The temperature was mild enough that we could all bundle up to go outside and spend some time enjoying the snow. There are 3 ways to enjoy a wintery day that immediately came to mind as I sat watching it snow from my home office window.
First Way To Enjoy A Snowy Day
The first way to enjoy the snow is to enjoy the beauty from inside your cozy and warm home. I am blessed to have two windows in our home office. It was quite a sight to watch the snow come down. It actively snowed most of the day. The flakes were light and fluffy. The photos I later took outside showed the snow continuing to fall in each shot.
This can be the best way for some to experience the beauty of a cold winter day. If it is too cold or you do not want to or can't leave the warmth of your home, you can still experience the awe inspiring beauty of a snowy January day from your window.
The Second Way To Enjoy A Snowy Day
The second way to enjoy the snow is to bundle up and get outside in the snow. The kids and I took a break in the afternoon, gathered our snow gear, and headed out into the snow. It kept snowing the whole time we were outside.
The kids chose to build a snowman today instead of sledding. We do have a nice sledding hill at the back of our property, however today was all about the snowman. There is a lot of thought that goes into creating the best snowman.
The Third Way To Enjoy A Winter Day
The third way to enjoy winter takes place after you come back inside after being out in the snow. Playing outside in the snow makes you both thirsty and hungry. It is important to plan ahead and have a favorite drink and snack available for everyone.
I usually have a steaming cup of coffee. My grandkids and husband like a cup of hot chocolate. We make from scratch hot chocolate most of the time. Sometimes we take a shortcut and use the hot chocolate from a mix. Either way is good and helps warm us up. I try to keep cookies on hand for our snack after being out in the snow.
Playing in the snow and building a snowman is hard work. The time after we have been outside is all about getting warm in front of the woodstove and quenching our hunger and thirst. And resting of course. Resting our bodies and our minds.
I hope you get to enjoy a day filled with snow soon. You can enjoy it from inside your home, looking out the frosted panes of a window or outside gathering snow for a snowman. If you go outside the best part is coming inside afterwards and treating yourself to a warm drink and a snack. If you do not go outside you can still enjoy the warmth and comfort of a cup of hot chocolate or coffee as you view the winter wonderland from inside.
