Foaming hand soap is something that we use a lot of. I used to be able to find inexpensive hand soap on sale for less than two dollars a bottle. That seemed like a good deal until I started learning more about all of the chemicals that little bottle contained. WE were putting this on our hands multiple times a day.
Natural Home
There are words on the ingredient list I can't even pronounce and it is a long list. I have been working toward a chemical free home for several years. In fact my journey started when I was introduced to essential oils a few years ago.
I have slowly been trying to remove as many chemicals from my home as I can. Hand soap is a big one because we all wash our hands many times a day. We have hand soap in the kitchen and in each bathroom.
Before I switched to foaming hand soap we used to go through a lot of bottles of soap. Foaming hand soap helped get just the right amount on hands with one pump of dispenser. No more wastefulness with too much soap on your hands.
However, foaming hand soap still had a long list of chemicals that we were all applying our skin numerous times a day. I found a "recipe" online to make your own foaming hand soap and tweaked the ingredients until I liked it.
It has such simple instructions, it is really hard to call it a recipe. Here is what you need to make your own foaming hand soap.
Create Your Own
The first thing you need is a foaming dispenser (you can purchase these on Amazon) or I used the ones I already had from previous bottles of foaming hand soap.
The ingredients are simple: Dr. Bronner's Pure-Castile liquid soap, essential oil of your choice, and water. I fill the soap bottle half full of Dr. Bronner's, add 5 drops of essential oil, and fill to the top with water. That's it, so easy to "make". The foaming dispenser means you use just what you need with less waste.
I use lemon or lavender essential oils most frequently. In the winter or if anyone in the house is under the weather I use Thieves essential oil. You could probably use any of your favorite essential oils.
Essential Oils
The quality of the oils used is important. I use Young Living essential oils. I talk about the oils here: http://www.savingmoneylivingfaithfully.com/essential-oils/ . They are not the cheapest oils, but I appreciate the Seed to Seal quality standards. If I am trying to eliminate chemicals in my home, I do not want to go cheap on the essential oils.
This foaming hand soap is useful in the bathrooms and at the kitchen sink. Easy to use, smells wonderful, and it lasts a long time. This is just one step to help create a more natural home. Decreasing the chemicals we use every day, one product at a time. Try it and let me know what you think!
